Corazon (manuscript in progress)
Corazon is a work of bio-fiction and centers on a timid and reticent woman who battles oppression and prejudice to become a courageous advocate for social justice. The novel starts with the shocking death of Cora’s husband, Luis, and weaves back and forth between present-day Australia and Cora’s tumultuous past. Born in the Philippines in the 1930s, Corazon had an idyllic childhood. Her innocence is shattered when she discovers that she and her siblings are illegitimate. But she is determined to prove herself and blazes a trail to the world of international relations. She meets Luis, and the course of her life is changed. Forever. Over three decades, their lives are marred by surmounting challenges and heartbreak as they search for a place to call home across the Philippines, South Korea, and Australia. In the unlikeliest place, Corazon finds her voice, and a once naïve young woman becomes an advocate for battered Filipino women who arrive in Australia as mail-order brides.
